A clear artwork brief makes a better match project
What to gather before you request a quote or approve a proof.

A strong artwork brief makes the conversation clearer. It gives the person reviewing your project enough information to understand the brand, identify production requirements, and explain what needs to happen before a proof can be approved.
Gather the original files you have.
Send the original logo file if it is available, rather than a screenshot copied from a website. If all you have is a PDF, an image, or a previous printed item, send that and explain the result you want. We can review the starting point and identify any preparation needed.
Include the exact wording.
Write out the business name, web address, tagline, date, monogram, or other text exactly as it should appear. Treat this as a separate check from the logo file. Small spelling and punctuation details are easier to resolve before the design is laid out.
Describe the visual direction.
- Supply brand color references and any relevant brand guidelines.
- Identify which elements are essential and which are optional.
- Show examples of the finish or general look you have in mind.
- Explain whether the matches need to coordinate with a candle, gift box, venue, or event suite.
A screen image can communicate a direction, but it does not guarantee that paper, ink, foil, and match-head colors will reproduce identically. Ask what color-approval method is available for your selected product.
Get the product layout before finalizing the design.
Available artwork areas vary by packaging and decoration method. Confirm the template, printable panels, trim or fold requirements, striker position, and any areas that must stay clear. Do not build a final production file around the proportions of a concept photograph.
Review the proof as an order document.
Check the artwork and the specifications together. Is the wording correct? Is the logo placed where you expect? Are the colors, dimensions, quantity, and intended finish documented? Ask what the proof represents and whether any details require a separate sample or physical approval.
Keep a record of the approval.
Keep the approved artwork and order confirmation together. If anything changes after approval, ask for the revised details in writing and confirm whether the change affects cost or timing. This is especially useful when several people are reviewing a project or coordinating a repeat order.
